The colored dots represent different types of species. The red species prefers the water and the green species prefers the land.
If a species is located on terrain that it does not prefer it will devote its effort to changing the terrain type to match their preference. If the species is located on terrain that it prefers, it will attempt to persuade the creatures immediately adjacent to its location to convert. For example, a red creature on a water tile will persuade any green creatures that are adjacent to become red creatures.
During the persuasion process a creature may become neutral, denoted by a white dot, if they are evenly persuased by both types of creatures. Also, if a creature is dwelling in the terrain type that it prefers and an adjacent cell is empty the creature will encourage the growth of a creature of its type in the empty cell. After 25 turns the creature will die.
